Where have I been?

I didn't quite mean to disappear.  Sometimes time goes by and I'm less aware it is even happening.  Life, in this case, has been pretty damn distracting. Otherwise....working on the new play about Ozone, Montreal Protocol.  It has been a bear of late.  As I wrote in July, I had the tremendous opportunity to see the Montreal Protocol in action after years of reading about it, the people, actions and history.  Before July, if you will, the play was entirely in my imagination.  For a couple of months after July, all I could get myself to do was type up notes and look at actual presentations as if I were writing a research paper.  I felt a tension between my imagination and reality and worked very slowly not knowing how or what might break up that tension or shoot me forward to a new place.  I think that finally may have happened.  A few discoveries.  I need to be a character.  This intrigues me because I a realizing that this might kind of be my thing in a way I never knew.  Looking for the Pony I am a character.  Me You Us Them - coming soon to Cherry Lane - I am a character unnamed.  Eclipse is pretty close to me.  And now in World Avoided. I'd been looking for a narrator, felt the need for a way to bring the audience into the room and now it feels like it must be me.  I am the audience in the play in the sense of I came into this world as they are coming into this world.  Getting to this, finally broke me through, I think.  I wrote an opening monologue for Andy extolling the great success of the Montreal Protocol and how excited she is to finally be at a meeting to see how this great body works.  And she opens the door and the delegates are screaming and yelling at each other.  She closes the door and is like what the hell.  And then we begin to learn what is going wrong now, how we got here, what went right in the past and what the hell has to happen to save the world again now.  The work will continue and I'll get confused again as I'm going to the Meeting of the Parties in Paris in November.  But it is all good.  I love this work.  I want this work.  I'll get there.

Beyond World, I've got some workshops and readings coming up that I am excited about.

Jo Cattell and I are going to get to workshop Me You Us Them thanks to a grant from the Puffin Foundation and support from TerraNova Collective and Cherry Lane Theater.  We'll have about five days to build the physical elements of this dance theater piece and show what we come up with on October 28th at 2:00 PM.  The amazing cast:
Woman - Angelina Fiordellisi
AB - Alain Lauture
Sigh - Brian Quijada
Ping - Martina Heimann

Next up will be Strait of Gibraltar at Speranza Theater Company November 10 and 11.  Details to follow.

And, finally, we'll be showing 15 minutes of Lf&Tms at the fabulous Musical Theater Factory December 15th.

I'm well,  I'm fine, I'm sad, I'm working, I'm hopeful.  And shall end with some  summertime Maine pictures.
